A beautiful dewy glow to your skin is all well and good but whether you’re soaking up the rays abroad or enjoying a scorching British summer (ever the optimist), here are a few tips on how to avoid the ‘sweaty Betty’ look.

1. Switch to a lighter, mattifying moisturiser and avoid heavy creams which tend to sit on top of your skin. Alternatively a non-oily serum is a brilliant way to get moisture into the skin without overloading it and creates a nice smooth base for your make-up. Try Aseop Oil Free Facial Hydrating Serum.

2. Use a mattifying foundation that’s long wearing and make sure that you blend it well. Chanel Mat Lumiere has a SPF15 and comes in a handy compact which you can pop in your handbag ready for touch-ups on the go.

3. After you’re applied your foundation, a great tip to help it stay put longer is to get a tissue and hold it over your face and gently pat. This helps to absorb any excess oil from your skin whilst leaving the pigment of your foundation. Follow this by setting your make-up with a light dusting of translucent powder such as Make Up Forever Super Matte Loose Powder in Translucent.

4. Avoid creamy blushers when it’s hot, instead opt for a lip or cheek stain. These are brilliant for creating an attractive flushed look and blend seamlessly into the skin. Try Benefit Benetint or Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel in Rosy or Flushed.

5. If you really can’t bear the thought of living without highlighter and want to add a smidgen of healthy glow, one of my favourite products is RMS Living Luminizer. It’s unlike any other on the market and provides a gorgeous natural looking finish without excess shine or greasiness. Dab a tiny amount (a little goes a long way) on your cheekbones and blend in well.

6. The use of sun screen goes without saying but if you can incorporate a little extra protection into your daily skincare routine all the better. A product vastly becoming a bit of a cult favorite, particularly amongst the celebrity contingent, is SkinCeuticals Ultra Facial Defence SPF50. It protects the skin from hyperpigmentation and photo-aging by neutralising harmful rays on impact before they enter the skin. Devotees include Sienna Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow and Katherine Heigl.
