Thank God Spring is upon us is all I can say. I love this time of year; the weather gets warmer, days get longer and everything starts anew bringing a fresh sense of hope and gratitude. No surprise then that 2014 Spring/Summer make-up trends emerging hot from the catwalk offer up a shock of bright colours that make you feel great to be alive, full of vitality and emphasise health with natural flawless beauty. Now I’m not suggesting you adopt all of these as, quite frankly, you’d look a right loon but if you’re looking to freshen up your look, add a splash of colour and make it more current, they offer up some great inspiration.

1. Bright orange lipstick

spring 1

Choose whatever shade of orange takes your fancy, from neon to coral but make sure it’s matte. When going for a bold lip, go easy on the eye make up, a nude eye shadow with a hint of black eyeliner compliments the look perfectly and can easily be adapted for day or night wear.

Hot picks: Revlon ColorBurst Crayon Matte Balm in Mischievous, NARS Heat Wave Lipstick and Illamasqua Flare Lipstick.

2. Blue eyeshadow

spring 2

It maybe a throwback to the 80s but blue eye shadow is making a comeback in a big way. There’s something for everyone in this look, go for a flash of electric blue on the lower lash line, a bold block of opaque colour across your lids, or a soft pastel blue wash of colour. To make it current though, be sure to leave the rest of the face very neutral to let the colour pop as intended.

Hot picks: Shiseido Shimmering Eye Colour in Ice, Bourjois Electric Kohl & Contour Pencil in Bleu Espiegle, MAC Pro Chromacakes in Pure White and Hi-Def Cyan, NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Blue Dahlia or Eyeliner Pencil in Kalisté, Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow in Blue Soire, Maybelline Master Kajal Kohl Line in Lapis Blue and NARS Cinematic Eyeshadow in Wishful Thinking.

3. Golden, glowing skin

spring 3

When done correctly there’s nothing better than a healthy, sun kissed, golden day-glow look. Make bronzer your best friend this Spring/Summer but be careful not to over do it, you’re aiming for a flush of bronze as opposed to the Oompa Loompa look.

Hot picks: Tom Ford Bronzing Powder in Gold Dust, Michael Kors Beauty Bronze Powder, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark and Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Pinched.

4. Graphic liner

spring 4

Black eyeliner never seems to go out of fashion but this year the popular retro flick receives a bit of an overhaul in favour of angular shapes, straight lines and an altogether edgier look.

Hot picks: MAC Penultimate Eyeliner, Clinique Brush-On Cream Liner in True Black, L’Oreal Paris Gel Matic Super Liner in Black, Estee Lauder Pure Color Intense Kajal Eyeliner in Blackened Black.

5. Raw barefaced beauty

spring 5

The ‘no make-up, make-up look’ was ironically one of the biggest trends to hit the catwalks for Spring/Summer 2014. Yes, at last, an excuse to be lazy. That is, of course, if you’ve got the skin of a supermodel, for the rest of us mere mortals it’s about skin conditioning, a good concealer and a flawless natural base.

Hot picks: No7 Instant Illusions Rapid Radiance Balm, Dermalogica Total Eye Care, Terry Baume de Rose, NARS Oural Brow Gel and Laura Mercier Secret Concealer.
